Civil Rights Groups Protest Law Firm Over Taking Controversial Case

For the record, anyone who tries to do that to me will find out what I am really like when I get angry.

Also, I'm very peeved at K&S for what they did.  And mildly peeved at HRC.  Their statement on K&S's obligation to clients is a facile argument, and someone in the upper echelons of HRC knows that.

Men's Business Fashion Advice [14 Apr 2011|11:18am]
I'm fucking tired of ties.  I hate how they feel and having something wrapped around my neck makes me panicky.

So over the next few cycles, I'm going to try to transition my wardrobe away from tradition white-collar business attire to items that are still incredibly formal & business-appropriate, but without the necessity of choking myself.

Anyone got any good advice on how to start planning this transition?  breakinglight11 , I might be glancing in your direction.

Any Game Theory Geeks Wanna Take a Crack at This? [24 Feb 2011|02:12pm]
Cut for those who already know the Ultimatum GameCollapse )
A modified version of the of the Ultimatum Game is as follows:
  1. Person A receives a sum of money, either $100 of $500.  Person B is aware that A has received one of the two amounts, but is not told which.
  2. A makes an offer of a sum of money to person B.  A may make the claim that s/he has received the $100 amount regardless of the truth of the statement.
  3. B is offered three options:
  • Accept the offer per the usual Ultimatum game design,
  • Reject the offer per the usual Ultimatum Game design, or
  • Pay a third party to find out whether A received the $100 or $500 amount, then choose to Accept of Reject based on this new information.
What extra information do you get by having the underlined rule?  What if the rule were "A cannot make any statement suggestive of which amount s/he received"?

LARPers: Your Opinion Is Wanted! [21 Feb 2011|01:59pm]
I don't have the ability to create polls, but I want input from people on this question:

You are joining a campaign LARP.  The world of the LARP involves semi-rigid social classes (the classes don't prevent interaction between players, they just provide rules for how to interact with others)

Would you rather:

1.)  Learn made-up terms for the classes involved (e.g. "I am Cul", "You are Torpaq", "He is Zabit", "She is Esger")

2.)  Use less-than-creative English words to describe the classes (e.g. "I am a slave", "You are a landowner", "He is a merchant", "She is a soldier")

Alternatives to these two options are welcome input.

Mmmmm... beer! [25 Jan 2011|06:02pm]
Tom's Beer Jug

The image above is from the first batch of "beer"[1] I've brewed in a few years.  It's a hopless oatmeal stout with vanilla and non-fermentable sweetener[2] added to give it a creamier taste & consistency.  These babies should be ready for drinking the weekend of 2/5.  I haven't decided when or if to share these with my nearest & dearest yet, but I'll keep you all posted.

[1] Stupid rules regard what can be called what.  Because my brew is hopless, it's not beer.  Technically, it's either Gruit of Malt Liquor depending on where you come from.  But my goal is to brew without ever touching a hop, so I guess I'm a Malt Liquor Brewer from now on.

[2] It's lactose.  Apparently yeast can't process lactose, so it's the common addition to brews to make them sweeter.

I Chide All You Memesheep Because I Love You All [01 Dec 2010|11:36am]
If I had one wish that I could wish this holiday season, it would be that all the children to join hands and sing together in the spirit of harmony and peace.

If I had two wishes I could make this holiday season, the first would be for all the children of the world to join hands and sing in the spirit of harmony and peace. And the second would be for 30 million dollars a month to be given to me, tax-free in a Swiss bank account.

You know, if I had three wishes I could make this holiday season, the first, of course, would be for all the children of the world to get together and sing, the second would be for the 30 million dollars every month to me, and the third would be for encompassing power over every living being in the entire universe.

And if I had four wishes that I could make this holiday season, the first would be the crap about the kids definitely, the second would be for the 30 million, the third would be for all the power, and the fourth would be to set aside one month each year to have an extended 31-day orgasm, to be brought out slowly by Olivia Wilde and that model Tori-somebody, I can't think of her name. Of course hanasaseru can come too and she's behind me one hundred percent here, I guarantee it.

Wait a minute, maybe the sex thing should be the first wish, so if I make that the first wish, because it could all go boom tomorrow, then what do you got, y'know?

No, no, the kids, the kids singing would be great, that would be nice. But wait a minute, who am I kidding? They're not going to be able to get all those kids together. I mean, the logistics of the thing is impossible, more trouble than it's worth!

So -- we reorganize!

Here we go. First, the sex thing. We go with that. Second, the money. No, we go with the power second, then the money. And then the kids.

Oh wait, oh jeez, I forgot about revenge against my enemies! Okay, I need revenge against all my enemies, they should die like pigs in hell! That would be my fourth wish.

And, of course, my fifth wish would be for all the children of the world to join hands and sing together in the spirit of harmony and peace.

Thank you everybody and Merry Christmas.

-- slightly paraphrased from the original Steve Martin routine

Required Viewing [06 Nov 2010|09:58pm]
All of you Miyazaki fans, as well as general Lovecraft geeks, have to watch the most recent episode of South Park (The Coon: Mysterion Rises).  It's available on their website until Wednesday night.

If you don't watch regularly, you probably also need to see the episode entitled The Coon (Season 13 Ep. 2), also available on the South Park Studios website.

Last Call for Battle for Control of the Republican Party [27 Oct 2010|08:40pm]
 Hey everyone.

So at the moment, BCSGOP is down 4 players from being able to run at SLAW.  If I don't get 4 more players by Sunday, the game will have to be cancelled.

Please, if you know anyone who is attending or thinking of attending SLAW, ask them to look at BCSGOP and consider signing up for it.  For those who want info about the game to pass on to others, here's the blurb for it.

Thanks you all for your help!

SLAW Announcement: BCSGOP Needs Players! [20 Oct 2010|01:52pm]
Hey everyone!

Battle for Control for the Soul of the Republic Party: The Next Generation is short on players.  If we don't reach minimum by 10/30, I'm going to be forced to cancel this run.

We currently have 9 people signed up for the game.  We need about 20 to run, and 30 to run at our best.

So if you know anyone who's free on Saturday, 11/20/2010 between 2 and 6, and wants to play in a funny LARP with cool, attractive people, make them sign up for my game!

Obligatory SLAW posting [15 Oct 2010|11:16am]
Here's my current SLAW schedule, and a beg for players for my game.

Friday: Nothing (played all those games.  They're fun.  I recommend you don't skip those games.)

Saturday 12 PM: Nothing (Prep work BCSGOP.  Would be willing to try Crotchety Men if it were in another slot.  Tory & Lily write awesome games.)

Saturday 2 PM: Battle for Control of the Soul of the GOP: The Next Generation

This is the game I'm running.  It currently has 9* people signed up for it.  It needs about 10 more to run, 21 more to run optimally.
If you've got the time slot open, it promises to be a fun game, with lots of chaos, silliness, and even some funny jokes about politicians.

Saturday 8 PM: Evening with Clarence

Sunday 12 PM: Road Not Taken

Sunday 2 PM: Diamond Geezers

Attention LARPers [29 Aug 2010|08:52pm]
I am considering running my rewrite of BCSGOP at WPI's SFS Live Action Weekend.  It would very much be a shakedown run to get the bugs out and seek suggestions on improvement.

So I ask you the following questions:

Would you play in a run of this game meant to just get the bugs out?
Would you play in a run of this game meant to just get the bugs out if it weren't at SLAW?
If it ran both at Intercon and SFS LAW, where would you rather play it?

Help!! [10 Jul 2010|01:20am]
 Help!!

I'm going to an event in Waltham tomorrow which requires use of my laptop.  My laptop's RAM is fried.

I went to Micro Center in Cambridge, as well as Radio Shack and Best Buy in Watertown.  None of these had the RAM I need.  MicroCenter specifically failed in selling me desktop RAM instead of laptop RAM.

What I need is "PC3-8500 DDR3 SoDIMM Laptop Memory", ideally 2 2-GB sticks.  And I need a place I can walk into and walk out of with memory, since my laptop needs to be operational ASAP.

Does anyone have suggestions for a place that would fit the bill anywhere near Porter Sq, Waltham, or somewhere in between?
